ABOUT Dr Rajan works primarily in private practice, providing therapy services to clients from the general adult and teenage population. She treats people with depression, anxiety and many other general mental health issues. Prior to this Dr Rajan provided psychological assessment and treatment in a long term forensic rehabilitation setting to clients with different personality disorders, schizophrenia, drug and alcohol addiction who had committed serious offences. This role required a degree of therapeutic flexibility to help with enduring mental health issues.
In different NHS Trusts, Dr Rajan worked as a psychologist providing cognitive analytic therapy in a secondary care setting to clients with personality disorder, depression, anxiety and PTSD where interpersonal relationships were central to the presentation. In a slightly different setting Dr Rajan provided individual integrative and group therapy to clients with schizophrenia, bipolar depression and personality disorder in a low secure environment. She also used cognitive behavioural therapy, psychodynamic and person centred counselling, schema therapy, transactional therapy and EMDR.
Dr Rajan developed a special interest in trauma therapies, somatisation - when psychological distress is expressed as physical symptoms - and emotional self management such as anger management.
Academic achievements
Dr Rajan completed her Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at the University of East London. Her doctoral research covered the area of cross cultural therapy in counselling psychology focussing on how this manifests in the therapeutic encounter and managed by practitioners. Dr Rajan completed two MSc degrees with the Open University on Psychological Research Methods and in general adult Psychology. She researched Facial Emotional Recognition in Mental Health using a Meta-analytic research model. Dr Rajan also studied Humanistic Counselling, EMDR and dream works to broaden her therapeutic horizon.
Before moving to the UK, Dr Rajan worked as a teacher in an international language school in Hungary while completing her BA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
